Get Your Community On Board
Local action is meaningful action — if we’re going to see the Living Wage make life fairer in communities all across the county, we need your help.
It’s crucial that we get the word out — both to local businesses, and through the local media — in order to build momentum behind the campaign and to get ordinary people on board. We need to spread the word that a Living Wage doesn’t just mean a fairer and morally stronger society, but a more productive and prosperous one too.
The moral case for the Living Wage is backed up by a clear business case. You can find out more about it by clicking here.
To help get your community on board, we need you to:
- Contact local businesses about the campaign
We need to find out if employers are paying a Living Wage, questioning those who don’t and champion those who are. Ed has already written to 30 national businesses to make the case for the Living Wage — now we’re asking you to write to local businesses. Think about personalising it by focusing on those businesses you use regularly — such as your local food shop, favourite cafe, or hairdresser. Download the letter here. To search for local businesses and find out their address use a directory such as Yellow Pages.
For the campaign to succeed at the local level, it’s important that people are aware that it’s part of a much larger nationwide effort. Newspapers love hearing about things taking place in the local area that tie into a national story. The Living Wage campaign, as part of Ed’s campaign for Labour leader, is your opportunity to do that. You can download this template press release and customise it for your local area. You can use the tool below to find the contact details for your local newspaper:
