Set up a Living Wage campaign team in your community
The best way to take this campaign forward is if there is a team in the community driving it forward. Bring together key figures in the community and set up a group to campaign as a team on the Living Wage. Invite along Labour Party members, Labour Councillors, trade union members, but also community groups and faith groups.
Your local groups may already be working on securing a living wage in your area. Ask them if they are, and if not encourage them to set up a group of like minded people – offer to host the first meeting or to send out the email. It may also be worth inviting organisations or individuals who have already run a similar campaign to give you advice or even to come and train you in what it takes.
The change we’re trying to bring will have a real impact on millions of lives across Britain and this means it’s not going to be easy. You’ll need to plan your campaign carefully, map out who will help you and where the obstacles to progress might be – the stronger your campaign team, the more effective you’ll be.
