Promote the Living Wage to your local trade union members
Your trade union may already be working on securing a living wage in your area. Find out if they are, and if not, encourage them to get involved in the campaign.
1. Contact the Trade Union rep for your local Labour Party
One of the best ways to get in contact with trade unionists in your area is through your local Labour Party. Your local CLP will have a Trade Union Liason Rep – get in touch and ask them to promote the campaign and put you in touch with local trade unionists.
You can find out who you local rep is by contacting your CLP secretary. To find out who your CLP Secretary is, go to the Labour Party Members’ site at http://members.labour.org.uk. Log in, then check Profile / My Membership Details.
2. Promote the Living Wage campaign to your own trade union branch
You can promote the living wage to your own trade union branch. Ask your trade union rep if you can send an email around your workplace about the campaign – and see whether you can start a campaign to get your own employer to pay a Living Wage.
UNSION have produced a toolkit on how to campaign about the Living Wage in your workplease. Download it here.
Trade unions can also help us map out which businesses and organisations are paying the Living Wage.
